Working in the healthcare industry for several decades continues to be both a privilege and responsibility. What a great career to enjoy time with so many people who are dedicated to the mission of helping people be their healthiest. From hospital systems striving to improve care for the sick to employers and payers designing benefits with an emphasis on preventing illness, the labor of my peers is a continuing inspiration.
Over the years my colleagues have taught me to be a better listener, to embrace (smart) risk, to focus on the consumer, and to care more about the people than the tasks. One such person was a Sister Executive who led a large Catholic health system. She left a mark on my spirit, when she spoke to an audience when I was a young executive, climbing the corporate ladder. She said, “Make sure the people who work with us leave us not just as better employees but better people.” I have repeated this to myself hundreds of times throughout my career.
Now along with, Nancy Wise, my partner in launching Spring Street Exchange, we approach our new firm with these same values. We are committed to solving problems and meeting the needs of our customers, not just selling time. We are committed to the transformation of the healthcare system for the benefit of everyone. We want to help providers, hospitals, employers, and vendors participate in the great change going on in our industry. We want the fresh voice of the Millennial generation to be at the forefront, pushing the rest of us to offer better service at lower costs and in new ways.
Thank you, our colleagues and customers, current and future, for the opportunity to be a part of such a worthwhile journey!
