COVID-19: Our journey continues

Current data from many sources show that Americans are uncomfortable returning to "normal,” with many still avoiding medical and mental health providers. In addition, millions of people have lost their jobs, and with it, their insurance coverage. This has resulted in a massive wave of forgone and deferred care (FDC). The flip-side of FDC is a surge in demand of services for conditions that have gone untreated for months, as well as new conditions that have developed in the interim. That surge is coming, we know this for certain.

We are less certain of the timing and severity of this demand. We all know intuitively that FDC has a consequence. Both our business sense and our personal ethics require us to anticipate needs and find ways to provide care. That's the purpose of this Data Pack.

Our team has curated insight from many sources to provide a succinct view on this topic that can be used to support your organization’s planning. We explore what services are being delayed, the effect of these delays on our healthcare system, some of the additional challenges people may face in accessing the care they need, and the outsized impact on vulnerable populations.

At Spring Street Exchange, we believe that we are all at our best when we solve big problems together.
